SOLUTION: After hydrogen storage alloy powder is prepared, before acid treatment, and/or at acid treatment time, treatment to adsorb a substance which has Ni and adsorptivity and has a water soluble functional group (a hydroxyl group or an amino group) is performed on an allay surface of the powder. At washing treatment time at least after acid treatment, a film to protect Ni is adsorbed to and formed on a surface of the hydrogen storage alloy powder.
