PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the unnecessary action of a discharge gap consisting of a starter, and thereby enhance durability by letting the switching device of a charging circuit for the starting capacitor of a starter be repeatedly turned on/off at specified intervals, and letting it be turned off after the period of time has elapsed, which can re-ignite a discharge lamp. SOLUTION: When a commercial power supply 1 is charged in order to light a discharge lamp 20, AC power fed by the power supply 1 is applied to the stabilizer 2 of the discharge lamp. The output of the stabilizer 2 is applied to a rectifying circuit 8 through a relay 6 so as to be rectified, and it is smoothed out by a smoothing capacitor 8. Besides, the output of the stabilizer 2 is simultaneously charged to a control power supply circuit 4, and concurrently is applied to the discharge lamp 20 through the secondary coil of a second transformer 18. And controlling electric power is fed to a starting circuit control part 5 as controlling electric power from the circuit 4, on/off controlling signals are repeatedly outputted from a circuit 5, and it is turned off thereafter. By this constitution, the unnecessary action of a discharge gap consisting of a starter is prevented so as to enable its life to be lengthened. |
