摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape coupler having an excellent loss characteristic by making it possible to suppress the shape distortion of fusion spliced parts by nonuniform heating at the time of fusion stretching. SOLUTION: Optical fibers 1a, 2a are exposed in the middle parts of a first coated optical fiber ribbon 1 and a second coated optical fiber ribbon 2. Both coated optical fiber ribbons 1, 2 are superposed on each other by shifting these fiber ribbons in the transverse direction of the coated optical fiber ribbons and thereafter, the optical fibers 1a of the first coated optical fiber ribbon 1 and the optical fibers 2a of the second coated optical fiber ribbon are arranged on the same plane perpendicular to the thickness direction of the coated optical fiber ribbons. Two pieces of the optical fibers 1a, 2a of both coated optical fiber ribbons 1, 2 as one set are brought into contact with the respective peripheral surfaces with each other. The contact parts are then fusion stretched by heating.
