PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform extraction with a little erroneous extraction regardlessly of race or color of skin when extracting the face (flesh-colored) area of a person. SOLUTION: At a hue value arithmetic part 1, a hue value is calculated from an input image (RGB signals). At a first-order judgement part 2, picture elements are extracted out of the specified range to which the hue value is set by a critical value outputted from a control part 5. At a picture element count part 3, the number of extracted picture elements is counted. At the control part 5, a threshold value for extraction is selected by a count value and outputted to a face area extraction part 4. At the face area extraction part 4, the face area is extracted corresponding to this threshold value. |
