1,124,531. Axial-flow pumps. L. J. A. JONCKHEERE. May 30, 1967 [March 16, 1966], No. 11501/66. Heading F1C. An axial-flow pump, e. g. for acids or alkalis, has the liquid contacting surfaces of the impeller 29, the impeller shaft 22 and an intermediate shaft 18, and the mutually engaging surfaces of the intermediate shaft 18 and a supporting bearing 17, formed of synthetic resin polymer or co-polymer. The impeller, its shaft and a sealing baffle 26 maybe of P.V.C., P.T.F.E., P. P. P. or a compound thereof. The impeller may be entirely of synthetic resin. The impeller shaft and the intermediate shaft may be of metal, e.g. steel, coated or sheathed with glass-loaded P.T.F.E. The pump housing and bearing mounting may be entirely of synthetic resin or of metal lined or coated with synthetic resin. The bearing is preferably of glass-loaded P.T. F.E. Conduits 3, 5 form either the pump inlet or the outlet respectively depending of the direction of impeller rotation. The free end of the impeller shaft may carry a P. T. F.E. bearing member which is in bearing contact with a P.T.F.E. ring mounted transversely within the pump housing. The conduit 5 may be replaced by a number of angularly spaced radial passages in the pump housing wall. The pump may be vertically arranged. |
