PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the device and method for automatic musical performance which prevent sounding from lasting even when a player stops operating to advance the automatic musical performance halfway and to execute a smooth automatic musical performance even when the automatic musical performance is advanced by using only one key. SOLUTION: This automatic musical performance device, which reads note data out of an automatic musical performance data memory 18 each time key depression detecting means 10 and 16 detect key depression to start generating a sound according to the note data and also advances the automatic musical performance by muting a sound that is already generated, is equipped with a control means 10 which continues to generate the currently generated sound when foot operation detecting means 10 and 14 detect a foot operation element 26 being off and mutes the currently generated sound when the off state of the foot operation element is detected on condition that key release detecting means 10 and 16 detect key release and an in-keying detecting means detects no key being pressed.
