PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing system capable of executing a power management operation and a recovery operation form power management at a higher speed and the control method. SOLUTION: In this information processing system of a type provided with a processor 11, a volatile memory 13 and nonvolatile auxiliary storage devices 22 and 24 for stopping power supply to a prescribed electrical circuit after the contents of the memory 13 are stored in the auxiliary storage devices 22 and 24, further, a memory use information management means for managing whether respective areas inside the memory are a memory resident data area for storing a code and data to be stationed in the memory 13 or a memory non-resident data area for storing the code and data appropriately replaceable between the auxiliary storage devices 22 and 24 is provided. At the time of stopping the power supply, the contents of the memory non-resident data area in the memory 13 are stored in the auxiliary storage devices 22 and 24 first and the contents of the memory resident data area are stored in the auxiliary storage devices 22 and 24 later corresponding to the memory use information management means.
