PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron source capable of reducing the modulation voltage of an electron beam and obtaining high-density electron beam output and an image forming device using it. SOLUTION: An electron source has such constitution that a plurality of element rows in each of which a plurality of electron emitting elements 16 are wired and a plurality of modulation electrodes 6 are arranged in a matrix. The said plural modulation electrodes 6 have width larger than the pitch between the plural modulation electrodes.
