A low-voltage, heavy current switch, similar to that of Specification 1,061,480, comprising pairs of movable bridging contact bars 30, 31, pivotable between the closed position (shown in full lines) and the open position (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1), in which they extend diagonally across the space between fixed contacts 14 and 15 of terminal plates 10 and 11, has a pair of auxiliary movable contact bars 53, (54) (see also Figs. 2, 3, 5, not shown), pivotable between closed and open position with regard to a fixed arcing contact 52 and the contact 14, and during opening the bars 53, (54), first engage contact 14, then the pairs of main contact bars 30, 31, break contact with contacts 14, 15, and finally the auxiliary contact bars 53, (54), break contact only with arcing contact 52 while remaining engaged with contact 14. A push rod 35 is pivotally attached to each pair of contact bars by a pin 37 such that longitudinal motion of the push rods 35 by rotation of a handle 43 causes pivoting of the contact bars. Handle 43 is operated manually or by power, e.g. by a pneumatic cylinder or other motor. Arcresistant contact portion 52 is a silver-tungsten alloy while the terminal 51 is copper. Leaf springs 34 bias the contact bars against the fixed contacts therebetween.</p> |
