An apparatus and a method for detecting movement position of a zoom lens are provided that improve a velocity and an accuracy for detecting movement position using an original position decision means and a position determining array. The method for detecting movement position of a zoom lens includes steps of establishing an origin at the point where an output is varied by driving a movement forwardly and backwardly according to ON and OFF of an output from a photo-interrupter(S1~S7); moving the movement at the established origin, counting a constant pulse outputted by Fleming's right-hand rule as a ladder-shape carcass line, a small magnet and a yoke are crossed by a forward and backward movement of a mirror part, and multiplying a unit length thereby, and determining the position of the movement(S8~S12).
