PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately perform proper misfire detection in an internal combustion engine operating region of wide range, by a simple constitution with an angular acceleration deviation and a periodic ratio deviation combined. SOLUTION: By a signal of a crank angle sensor constituted by a signal rotor 9 and an electromagnetic pickup 10, two kinds of arithmetic methods of S system andαsystem are used, to switch the arithmetic method used in decidion of a misfire according to an internal combustion engine operating condition.
