PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a ferritic stainless steel excellent in corrosion resistance in the air. SOLUTION: This steel is a ferritic stainless steel excellent in corrosion resistance in the air, which contains, by wt., at least, <=0.007% S, 15.0-25.5% Cr, and 0.2-1.2% Cu and in which S type inclusions exist in the form of Cu- containing sulfides. As an embodiment, this steel is the one which has a composition consisting of <=0.02% C, 0.01-0.04% N, <=1.0% Si, <=0.7% Mn, <=0.007% S, 15.0-25.0% Cr, 0.2-1.2% Cu, Nb by the amount in the range satisfying Nb-8×(%C+%N)=0.1 to 0.8%, either or both of Mo and Ni capable of being added according to the required level of corrosion resistance, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and in which S based inclusions exist in the form of Cu-containing sulfides.
