PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve strength and rigidity in the circumferential direction of a cylindrical body by forming a cylindrical outer hull for an underwater navigating body by an Al-group composite material in which Al or Al alloy is taken as a matrix and heat resistant ceramic grains or short fibers are uniformly dispersed on the matrix. SOLUTION: An outer hull material for a underwater navigating body, capable of achieving the large size, the light weight and the high depth is formed of an Al-group composite material in which Al or Al alloy is taken as a matrix, and heat resistant ceramic grains or short fibers are uniformly dispersed on the matrix. In this case, the heat resistant ceramic grains or short fibers are oriented in the circumferential direction of the cylindrical outer hull. SiC, Al2 O3 , Si3 N4 , ZrO2 , etc., are used as the heat resistant ceramic grains or short fibers. The heat resistant ceramic grain having the diameter in the range from 0.5 to 5.0μm is used, and the heat resistant ceramic short fiber having the diameter in the range from 0.1 to 10μm and the length in the range from 5 to 100μm is used.
