CHITOSAN-IMMOBILIZED ACRYLIC FIBER AND ITS PRODUCTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably obtain the subject fiber having sustainably excellent antimicrobial deodorant function. SOLUTION: A chitosan-immobilized acrylic fiber is obtained by such a procedure that an acrylic fiber with its surface bearing carboxyl group at 1-5mol% of the whole nitrile group is immobilized with 0.1-5wt.%, based on the fiber, of chitosan by forming a polyion complex with the carboxyl group. The objective acrylic fiber is obtained, for example, by the following process: the above original acrylic fiber is treated in a 1-10wt.% aqueous solution of an alkali metal compound or inorganic acid at 70-100 deg.C for 5-60min to hydrolyze the fiber surface, and the resultant fiber is then impregnated with a chitosan solution prepared by dissolving 0.1-10wt.% of chitosan in an aqueous acid solution containing 0.1-20wt.% of an acid.
