PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To industrially advantageously obtain cyanothiophene useful as a raw material of medicines and agricultural chemicals at high selectivity and a high yield. SOLUTION: This cyanothiophene is obtained by reacting a thiophene having a 1-3C alkyl group or an acyl group with ammonia and oxygen in a gas phase in the presence of a vanadium oxide catalyst of the formula: V10 Aa Xb Yc Zd Oe (A is at least one kind of element selected from among P, Sb, Cr and Fe; X is Mo and/or Y is at least one kind of element selected from among Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba and La; Z is at least one kind of element selected from among Ce, Zr, Nb, Ta, Mn, Re, Co, Ni, Cu, Ag, Zn, B, Al, Si, Sn, Pb, Bi and Te; (a) is 1-300; (b) and (c) are each 0-20; (d) is 0-150; (e) is a number corresponding to an oxide generated by bonding of the above suitable components). |
