PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a random ethylene copolymer excellent in mechanical properties and processing properties by copolymerizing ethylene with anα-olefin and a nonconjugated diene so that the formed copolymer may have a specifiedα-olefin content, a specified iodine value, a specified number-average molecular weight, etc. SOLUTION: This random ethylene copolymer is one comprising ethylene, a 6-20Cα-olefin and a nonconjugated diene, wherein the content of repeating units derived from the a-olefin is 5-95wt.%, the iodine value is 0.5-50, the number-average molecular weight Mn is 30,000-300,000 as determined by gel permeation chromatography, the molecular distribution as defined by Mw/Mn (Mw is the weight-average molecular weight, and Mn is the number-average molecular weight) is 3.5-20, and the degree of crystallinity is 0-20% as determined by X-ray diffractometry. This copolymer is excellent in aspects of mechanical properties and processing properties and can be desirably used in various fields including electronic and electrical components, machine parts, civil engineering and construction materials and automotive components.
