<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the size of printing paper placed on a paper feed tray using a simple structure. SOLUTION: The breadth of printing paper placed on a paper feed tray 3 is detected by a breadth sensor from the position of a guide member 10, and the direction of the printing paper placed on the paper feed tray 3 is detected in accordance with the switching action of a direction designating switch 12. Because the size of the printing paper is determined from its breadth and direction, the size of the printing paper can be detected accurately whether the printing paper is placed lengthwise or crosswise on the paper feed tray 3.</p> |
