PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the maintenance cost by improving the convenience of the operation of a client device and the management of the client server configuration in the client server computer system. SOLUTION: The cache only client server configuration provides a profit on the performance of a 'data less' client operation and the efficiency on the management of the 'disk less' client server configuration. When a cache only client 52 is used, a disk drive with a comparatively small capacity as a local data cache and the system approaches the performance of a stand alone system. The cache only client 52 acts like an exchange, in which the client 52 does not store important data and data stored in the local disk are 'clone' data being master copy data stored in the server. Since installation, distribution and backup of software programs are managed by the server, the system configuration, management and maintenance cost are dramatically reduced.
