PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate a background, a moving object and a shadow with high accuracy. SOLUTION: A difference between a current image and an image delayed by one frame is compared with a threshold level th1, resulting that a 0-th flag (flag 0) is generated, a moving area discrimination circuit 8 discriminates a 1st flag (flag 1) based on the flag 0. A difference between a current image and an image in a background memory 37 is compared with a threshold level th2, resulting that a 2nd flag (flag 2) is generated. The flag 1 and the flag 2 are ANDed to obtain a 3rd flag (flag 3) and a 4th flag (flag 4) obtained by removing isolated points from the flag 3 is used to discriminate a moving area by using threshold levels th1, th2, th3, th4 and a 5th flag (flag 5) is generated. Moreover, the flag 5 is compared with a threshold level th5 a 6th flag (flag 6) is generated and the background, moving object and shadow are separated based on a 7th flag (flag 7) obtained by eliminating isolation points from the flag 6. |
