PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-chip black matrix in two-layered structure by providing the two-layered black matrix of an active matrix type liquid crystal display device on a driving substrate side. SOLUTION: A driving substrate 1 and a counter substrate 2 are joined together across a specific gap and a liquid crystal 3 is held between the both. The driving substrate 1 is constituted by forming a plurality of TFTs 6 which are switched and driven individually, a 1st inter-layer insulating film 7 which covers the TFTs 6, a wiring electrode 8 which is patterned and formed thereupon, a 2nd inter-layer insulating film 9, a 1st black matrix 101 which is patterned and formed thereupon and shields the TFTs 6 below it from light, and a 2nd black matrix 102 with different etching selectivity on it. The black matrix is formed in the two-layered structure, so the 1st black matrix can be made thin and an open circuit due to cracking is eliminated to improve the quality of the liquid crystal display device. |
