MAGNETIC RECORDING DISK AND MAGNETIC RECORDING AND REPRODUCING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording disk having excellent traveling durability and also improved in a reproducing output and to provide a magnetic recording/reproducing method using the magnetic recording disk. SOLUTION: This disk has a magnetic layer <=1μm in thickness composed of ferromagnetic metallic powder dispersed in the binder at least on one side of a non-magnetic flexible supporter. The relevant magnetic layer contains carbon black, the amount of carbon black contained from the front surface of the magnetic layer to a half depth in the thickness direction of the magnetic layer is more than the amount of carbon black contained from the half depth of the magnetic layer to the supporter side, the maximum density of magnetic flux of the relevant magnetic layer is >=2500 gauss and the coercive force is 1300-3000Oe. A digital signal whose shortest recording wavelength is <=1.5μm is recorded/reproduced in the magnetic layer of the magnetic recording disk by using the relevant disk. In the relevant disk, moreover a non-magnetic layer is provided between the non-magnetic flexible supporter and the magnetic layer.
