PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the integrated optical mode converter which performs conversion increased for each interface and has low attenuation in specific mode. SOLUTION: A channel type waveguide including a periodical cascade of two waveguide subsections P and Q sectioned by a stripped structure supported on a substrate is provided, the waveguide profiles of the subsections P and Q are sectioned by two different partial strips, and at least one of them is provided with slots SP and SQ which extend in the longitudinal direction of a partial strip as an issue. The slots are applied in such a manner that only the distribution of the electromagnetic field of one of two induction mode included in the mode conversion is affected.
