The braking system has pneumatic assistance provided by the pneumatic servo-motor (300) with a large diameter piston displaced by engine vacuum when the brake pedal is operated. The pneumatic servo-motor has valve (22) operated by the brake rod (10) to allow atmospheric pressure on one side of the piston. A second valve assembly (A) at the end of the piston rod of the pneumatic servo-motor allows the working chamber (26) of the pneumatic servo-motor to be connected either to the vacuum source or to atmosphere. The operation of the auxiliary valve is controlled by the pressure generated in the brake master cylinder. This pressure is communicated to the pneumatic servo-motor.
