摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for detecting optical information by using mode interference, capable of propagating and emitting illuminating light only in a zero-order mode and being easily produced. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a double mode optical waveguide 202 for propagating light to be detected, and a detection means 223 for detecting the symmetricalness of the intensity distribution of the light to be detected which is propagated through the optical waveguide 202. The detection means is provided with a branching part 206 branching the light propagated through the optical waveguide 202 to two directions, 1st and 2nd optical waveguides for detection 207 and 208 which propagate the branched light, and photodetectors 209 and 210. Illumination means 213 and 214 for making the illuminating light incident on the branching part 206 are respectively attached to the 1st and the 2nd optical waveguides for detection 208 and 209.
