PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the reduction of the data quantity of font data and improvement of character quality without causing a fall of the degree of freedom for expression of character pattern and thoughtless prolongation of a data processing time, and effectively utilize existing font technique. SOLUTION: In respective strokes constituting a character pattern, contour lines of both end parts are described as shape data of details by an outline system, contour line shapes on both sides of a main body part except these are described as main body part data constituted by combination of standard data showing the shape of a core line passing through the middle of the respective contour lines and a sample value showing the width of the main body part corresponding to the core line, and such font data are stored in a font ROM 2. When the font data are read out from the font ROM 2 so as to perform a painting process, a CPU 1 contracts and extends both contour lines, utilizing a virtual straight line passing through the end point of the core line of a stroke and inclining against the core line by an optional angle, and performs the painting process after converting the contracted and extended contour lines into a description system of the shape data of details. |
