PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the character output device by which character information corresponding to a character code is outputted through the use of a proper substitute griff when there is no griff corresponding to the character code in a font. SOLUTION: When a griff corresponding to a designated character code is retrieved from prescribed font data among plural font data 16b and outputted, an encoding table 16c storing cross reference between a griff name and the character code of font data is provided, and when the designated font data do not have a griff corresponding to the character code, an encoding table 16c is used to extract a griff name corresponding to the character code and a substitute griff is retrieved from other font data, based on the griff name. |
