The method involves using a laser beam for transmission between a transmitter (1) and receiver (6). The transmitter (1) has a laser source (3) and Cassegrain optics (4) to form a laser beam (L). The laser beam is transmitted through the atmosphere and is scattered by atmospheric particles. The scattered radiation is received by the receiver. The receiver has a semi-reflecting mirror (9) so that received radiation and a laser local oscillator (5) are focussed (7) onto the receiver. The received signal is heterodyne detected and analysed by a spectrum analyser (8). |
