<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain coding employing the optimum coding method depending on the property of an image by allowing a division means to divide an image in which coding object block with different size is in existence in the image. SOLUTION: The processing unit is provided with a CPU control section 1 coding and decoding image data through the software processing, an image input section 2, a printer section 3, a display section 4, a communication control section 5 that sends coded data by the CPU control section 1 or receives coded data sent from an external device and an image memory 6. Then image data stored in the image memory 6 are divided into the unit of 128×128 picture elements as a basic block and the data are sequentially extracted for each basic block. Thus, the division method to a block in the case of coding finally the image data and the optimum coding method with respect to each block to be divided are tentatively decided. In this case, the division of each block allows the presence of coding object blocks of different size in an image.</p> |
