PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the contrast of the reflection type liquid crystal panel and prevent off characteristics of an active element from deteriorating. SOLUTION: Liquid crystal 4 is sandwiched between a front-side glass substrate 1a which has a transparent electrode 2 and an oriented film 3a formed and a back-side glass substrate 1b which has pixel electrodes 5 as reflecting plates arranged in matrix, TFTs 9 driving the pixel electrodes 5, and an oriented film 3b formed, a light shield insulating film 6 is provided on the back-side glass substrate 1b while covering the TFTs 9, and on the light shield insulating film 6, the pixel electrodes 5 which are connected to the drain electrodes of the TFTs 9 through contact holes 8 are formed. On the light shield insulating film 6, the pixel electrodes 5 serving as the reflecting plates are provided, so light never leaks from a part where a pixel electrode 5 is not formed and a black display becomes sufficient to improve the contrast; and the TFTs 9 are covered with the light shield insulating film 6, so none of them is irradiated with light and off characteristics become excellent. |
