PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a significantly light product oil as compared with that prepared by the conventional processes of coal liquefaction by recovering an oil which contains a small quantity of heavy oil and large quantities of light oil (boiling point C5 -180 deg.C) and medium oil (boiling point 180-260 deg.C). SOLUTION: This process for liquefying coal comprises a raw material preparation step for obtaining a slurry mixture by mixing ground raw coal, a solvent and a catalyst, a hydrogenation step for hydrogenating the mixture, and an oil separation step for separating oil from a hydrogenation product obtained in the hydrogenation step, wherein part or all of the heavy oil obtained in the oil separation step is recycled/supplied to the raw material preparation step, or further a separation residue (distillation residue) obtained from the oil separation step is recycled/supplied to the raw material preparation step and/or the hydrogenation step, or a liquid distillate obtained in a gas-liquid separation step in the oil separation step is recycled/supplied to the raw material preparation step and/or the hydrogenation step. |
