PRODUCTION OF SECRETED FOREIGN POLYPEPTIDES IN PLANT CELL CULTURE

Disclosed are methods and compositions for increasing the expression and recovery of heterologous polypeptides secreted by cultured plant cells, including DNA constructs for high-level gene expression, secretion of heterologous polypeptides through both the plasma membrane and cell wall into the plant culture medium to facilitate protein recovery, and novel plant culture media. Recovery of secreted heterologous polypeptides from plant cell culture medium is significantly improved by including in the plant culture medium a polypeptide stabilizer such as polyvinylpyrrolidone.
