A spinning or twisting spindle has a shank mounted in a bolster and a foot bearing, three tube-like cases placed one inside the other with annular gaps in between, i.e. an outer case attached to the spindle rail, an intermediate multi-part bearing case holding the bolster and an inner flexible guide tube holding the foot bearing, the tube being solidly attached to the bearing case near the bolster and supported via a damping helix by the bearing case near the foot bearing. The bearing case in its turn is connected to the outer case via elastic fastenings (17, 18), i.e. two elastic metal discs (34, 35) in the ends (39, 40) of the outer case (5), and can be radially deflected.
