A first computer stage (8) computes the expiratory vol./flow function from the measured gas flow signal and the gas vol. integrated as a result. In addition a second computer stage (9) is provided for computing the time constants determined by the slope, respectively of sections of the vol./flow-function (expiratory time functions). A comparator stage (10) is connected to the second computer stage. The characteristic alterations of the time constant/vol are detectable in the comparator stage. The evaluator unit (6), finally has an information output (11) regarding the type of breathing passage obstruction.
