[Also in Division B3] A trochoidal die-cast housing for a rotary piston I.C. engine, comprising a body part 10, Fig. 2, of aluminium or magnesium alloy formed with a radial boss 12 for a fuel-injector or spark-plug and cooling fins 11, Fig. 3, includes a metallic internal coating 24 having a higher melting point than the aluminium or magnesium alloy in which is embedded reinforcing elements. The coating may be a ferrous metal or oxides thereof which is sprayed on to the body. When the interior of the housing is electro-plated, copper bearing alloys may be used. The reinforcing elements are particularly employed at places of high stress and may comprise circumferentially extending wires 26, Fig. 3, bars of round, angle, channel or T-section 25, Fig. 2, corrugated sheet or "expanded" metal. |
