This invention is a display system for an automatically tuned stringed instrument, individually or simultaneously, the frequency of each string of the instrument. Each string is provided with a transducer (26) for providing a signal to a processor (50) for determining the measured frequency. The processor (50) further generates a display signal and an actuator control signal from the measured frequency. An actuator (90) is controlled based on the actuator control signal. The display (72) is controlled based on the display signal. The system provides for using the display (72) to manually tune the instrument to within the operating range of the automatic tuning system.
