The proposed liquid filter is intended in particular for oil or fuel in an internal combustion engine, and a suitable filter connection flange (7) which forms part of the engine. The liquid filter (1) comprises a filter housing (2) with at least one liquid inlet duct (23) and one liquid return duct (34), a detachable cover (4) which hermetically closes off the filter housing (2), and a filter insert (5) which can be individually replaced and removed from the filter housing (2). The engine-side filter connection flange (7) has at least one liquid inlet duct (73) for the liquid to be filtered, at least one liquid return (74) for the filtered liquid and a number of sealing surfaces (701, 702, 703) which co-operate with seals (221, 222, 223) on the filter housing (2) of the liquid filter (1). The seals (221, 222, 223) on the filter housing (2) are concentric radial seals. The sealing surfaces (701, 702, 703) on the engine filter connection flange (7) are concentric radial sealing surfaces, and the filter housing (2) of the liquid filter (1) can be fitted on the engine filter connection flange (7) to create the requisite flow connections.
