A comber comprises: (i) combing head; (ii) an electric drive which produces the rotational movement of the comber cylinder and from which the other drives in the comber are derived; (iii) a planetary drive for producing a pilgrim step movement for detaching roller(s) to which drive is assigned; (iv) a first drive with a pref. continuously rotating motion; and (v) second drive with an adjustable oscillatory motion; where: (a) the first drive (62, 621, 622, 623) is produced in synchronism with the comber cylinder and the second drive (63) from an electric motor (635) capable of control in one rotation direction and transmitted via an oscillating crank drive (634, 633, 632) on to the arm piece (63) of the planetary gear; and (b) the crank drive electric motor is synchronised electronically with the drive for the comber cylinder.
