Splint for support of damaged spine - has support surface with number of spring loaded bars which are depressed by patients body and held in place by sliding plate

The splint for supporting the damaged spine of a patient is used in emergency vehicles such as ambulances or rescue helicopters and has a support surface (1) on which the patient lies. On the support surface are a number of retaining elements (2) in the form of bars which can slide up and down. The retaining elements are acted upon by springs (5) which push the bars upwards towards the patient. When the patient lies on the bars they depress to follow the contours of the body and are held in place by a sliding plate (8) which engages with locations on the bars.
