Internal control unit (1) for transmission, located inside a casing (3) of a gear shift mechanism including, apart from this unit, a primary shaft (2) and a secondary shaft (2') carrying a set of gears which can be engaged on the latter by means of forks (5, 6, 7), fork spindles (8, 9, 10) and claws (14, 15, 16) in response to the gear shift and gear selection orders transmitted by an external control shaft (17) the rotation of which is responsible for selecting a line of gears and the translation of which makes it possible to shift a gear, characterised in that it integrates the functions of selecting and shifting gear by selectively transmitting the translational movements of the control shaft (17) to the various claws (14, 15, 16) of the transmission and in that it integrates members for locking the gears (27, 28, 29) and members (24, 25) for locking the gear lines which are not selected.
