Method and arrangement for control of a solenoid-operated valve element movable between two end positions whereby it is urged towards the first end position by the activated solenoid (6) by means of magnetic attraction and is urged towards the other end position by an actuating device (12), preferably a spring, and for detection of the position of the valve element at deactivation of the solenoid (6) whereby in a first stage the connection of the solenoid (6) to its current source (BAT) is broken and in a second stage, a predetermined time thereafter, the remaining energy in the solenoid (6) is caused to generate a measuring current which is analysed in order to define the position of the valve element.
