1,136,102. Primary alcohols. HALCON INTERNATIONAL Inc. 5 Jan., 1966 [5 Jan., 1965], No. 499/66. Heading C2C. Primary alcohols are prepared by epoxidation of anα-olefin to the corresponding oxirane by reaction in the liquid phase with an organic hydroperoxide in the presence of an epoxidation catalyst and subsequent catalytic hydrogenation of the oxirane to a primary alcohol. Preferred starting materials are mixtures of C 10-25 olefins. Specified hydroperoxides include the hydroperoxides of cumene, ethylbenzene, t-butane, cyclohexanone, tetrahydronaphthalene, methyl ethyl ketone and methylcyclohexane. Preferred epoxidation catalysts are compounds of V, W, Mo, Ti, Ta, Nb, Re and Se which are soluble in the reaction mixture. The catalyst may include a basic compound. The hydrogenation may be effected in the liquid or vapour phase. Preferred hydrogenation catalysts are Ni, zinc oxide and copper chromium oxide. Examples relate to the preparation of a mixture of C 11-15 primary alcohols.
|
