Implantable transponder

An identification marker for implanting in an animal comprises a glass vial 10 which is filled with a quick curing liquid 18 to a predetermined volume such that when a transponder 15 is inserted in the vial the liquid entirely envelops the transponder and may also overflow. A cap 22 is placed on the vial and the liquid is cured to a solid mass with UV light. The cap is sealed either by the excess curing liquid 18 which has overflowed or by a glue. Preferably, the cap is an anti-migration cap having projections so that when the marker is implanted in an animal, it is prevented from sliding out. The curing liquid may be a UV curing polyvinyl chloride bonding adhesive. The transponder can be comprised of an IC circuit hybrid assembly and antenna coil 16 which contains identification information and may also collect physiological data concerning the animal such as temperature.
