<p>The gas generator comprises a hollow cylindrical body (2) with a side wall (3) and two flat end walls (3,4), contg. an igniter (8) and a solid pyrotechnic charge. The side wall is solid for its whole length, while the two end walls have apertures (6,7), the first for the igniter (8) and the second for a nozzle (16,19) with a seal (18). The pyrotechnic charge is in the shape of a block (20) with a series of through channels (24) lying parallel to its lengthwise axis, and is situated between the igniter and nozzle so that the channels are also parallel to the axis of the generator's body. The block's channels give it a series of identical radial thicknesses, permitting a simultaneous ignition of the channels' inner surfaces and the lateral surface of the block, which is made from a nitrocellulose or nitroglycerine-based cpd., or from a mixt. of ammonium perchlorate and sodium nitrate with a silicone resin binding agent.</p> |
