A travelling-band filter comprises a belt 1 carrying a plurality of independent filtering cells 2, each of which consists of filtering fabric (16), (Fig. 3, not shown), attached to a perforate channel section (15) which is attached to the belt by spring- loaded bolts (17, 18) and extends transversely across the belt, the interior of each cell 2 overlying apertures 5 in the belt. The belt shown is entrained over driven drums 3, 4, drum 4 dipping into a tank 9 fitted with slurry inlet 10 and adjustable overflow 12. Drums 3, 4 have apertures 6 which align with apertures 5 in the belt and communicate by rotating or fixed pipes 7 with distributors 8, which apply vacuum to the cells contacting drum 4 and to some cells contacting drum 3, compressed air being supplied by some pipes 7 of drum 3 whereby coke is blown into discharge spout 23. An intermediate vacuum box 13 removes further filtrate, and may have co-operating washing sprays (24), (Fig. 5, not shown). The return run of the belt may pass through cleaning sprays and air jets (25). Drums 3, 4 and box 13 may be divided to apply different vacuums to successive cells 2. In Fig. 6, (not shown), there is no tank 9, and slurry is delivered through an adjustable door (29) on to a belt 1 entrained over solid rollers and overlying a vacuum box 13 only, a further belt (31) serving to spread and compress the slurry on the belt 1. Belt 1 carries cells 2 and belt (31) is adjustable to vary the compression. One or more layers of reinforcing fabric may be interposed between section (15) and filtering fabric (16). |
