1,139,590. Distilling zinc. SOC. METALLURGIQUE D'IMPHY. March 10, 1966 [March 11, 1965], No. 10549/66. Heading C7D. Solid zinc is obtained from the smoke emanating from a furnace heated by a flame burning in the presence of blown in oxygen (e.g. the furnaces described in Specifications 1, 083, 640 and 1, 100,420) by cooling the smoke in at least one vertical hood into which water is injected, the water and zinc being collected at the base of the hood. The zinc may be recovered from the mixture at the base of the hood by filtration and any zinc carried through the hood may be recovered by a smoke-purifier device and then remelted and refined in a known manner.
