PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce colorless glucosides useful as a surfactant or a fragrance enhancing agent for plant such as cut flower in high yield and purity by reacting a glucose compound with an alcohol in the presence of an acid catalyst under reduced pressure. SOLUTION: The objective glucoside expressed by the formula (e.g. 2- phenylethyl glucoside) and useful as a surfactant or a fragrance enhancing agent for a plant such as a cut flower, etc., is produced in high yield and purity by reacting a glucose compound expressed by formula I (wavy line represents α- or β-configuration) (e.g. D-glucose anhydride) with an alcohol expressed by formula ROH (R is an aliphatic alcohol residue, an aromatic alcohol residue or an alicyclic alcohol residue) (e.g. 2-phenylethyl alcohol) under reduced pressure in the presence of an acid catalyst (e.g. acidic ion-exchange resin) at 75-85 deg.C for 24hr. |
