PRODUCTION OF 2,7-DIAMINOFLUORENONE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and economically obtain a diaminofluorenone useful for a charge generating pigment by catalytic reduction of a dinitrofluorenone using a specific catalyst. SOLUTION: (A) 2,7-diaminofluorenone is produced by a catalytic reduction of (B) 2,7-dinitrofluorenone in the presence of (C) a poisoned hydrogenation catalyst (preferably a Lindlar catalyst). The component C is a Lindlar catalyst in particular 1-10wt.% of palladium is carried on calcium carbonate and poisoned with 1-10% of lead. The preferred amount of component C is less than 100% more preferably 5-20% based on the component B. The reaction proceeds satisfactorily even in a slurry state of B. The reaction is preferably carried out at ambient temperature to 160 deg.C more preferably at 50-100 deg.C, at hydrogen pressure of 1-100kg/cm<2> more preferably 30-60kg/cm<2> for 0.5-20hr.
