PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain reactive org.-inorg. composite particles excellent in hardness, mechanical restoring properties, free-radical-polymerizability, etc., by incorporating an org. polymer backbone, a polysiloxane backbone, and a specified amt. of free-radical-polymerizable groups into the same. SOLUTION: A silcon compd. (e.g.γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane) is hydrolyzed and condensed. The resultant intermediate particles are subjected to free-radical polymn., i.e., the free-radical-polymerizable goups of the particles are subjected to free-radical-polymn., to form an org. polymer backbone. The resultant polymer particles are isolated by filtration, etc., and dried. Thus is obtd. reactive org.-inorg. composite particles which contain org. polymer backbones and polysiloxane backbones each having an organosilicon atom directly chemically bonded to at least one carbon atom of the org. polymer backbone with a content of the polysiloxane backbone (in terms of SiO2 ) of 25-85wt.% and which contain free-radical-polymerizable groups in a concn. of 0.05mmol/g or higher.
