PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composition for the oral cavity capable of preserving an aromatic ingredient in the composition before the use, emitting the aroma only at the time of use when an enzyme in the oral cavity acts and carrying out the deodorizing, masking, etc., of the halitosis. SOLUTION: This composition for the oral cavity comprises a glycoside, having a compound residue having an aroma as a constituent element and capable of producing the compound having the aroma by hydrolysis with an enzyme in the oral cavity. The saccharide residue which is the constituent element of the glycoside is preferably a residue of oligosaccharides of monosaccharides and/or di- or polysaccharides and the compound having the aroma is preferably an alcoholic aromatic compound (e.g. a monoterpene alcohol). The glycoside is obtained by enzymically or chemically carrying out the condensation reaction of saccharides with an aromatic compound or extracting the glycoside from a plant body. A usually used ingredient other than the glycoside can suitably be blended therewith to prepare a food such as a chewing gum or a candy or a quasi-drug such as a mouthwash or a dentifrice. |
