PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize quality and increase strength by mixing crushed glass, a foaming agent and a solvent, granulating and drying them and foaming them with heat. SOLUTION: Crushed glass having an average particle size of 3-10μm and a softening point of <=700 deg.C is mixed with 0.5-5wt.% of a foaming agent, when necessary, 0-5wt.% of a fusing agent to prepare a mixture. This mixture is combined with a solvent and the mixture with a water content of 15-18wt.% is granulated, dried, then heated at 730-900 deg.C for 10 seconds - 20 minutes to give the objective light-weight filler having 50-600μm particle sizes, a breaking strength of 20-300kg/cm and a specific gravity of 0.3-1.0. This light-weight filler is kneaded with resin particles, heated, molded to give a light-weight plastic with a specific gravity of 0.7-0.8. |
